Webhosting - For Free?
Should I be getting no cost web hosting? No, no and a third time no! This is actually the worst thing you can do for your precious website. No cost web hosting isn't advisable at all.
Why not?
There are a variety of reasons. The principle of you get everything you pay for remains very true here.
Free hosting providers get their money through advertising. You receive free hosting, yes, but you also end up with a large number of other companies' adverts on your site and there's nothing that you can do about it. They will often be competitive adverts too, which means that any traffic visiting your site could get lured away to your competitors site!
Then you have the complete absence of technical support. Free hosting providers don't really worry about your needs. If ever the server crashes or if the site gets hacked, it is entirely your responsibility to restore the website or remove the files the hacker loaded. The no cost hosting companies will not keep backups for you or help you fix anything on your site, only individuals who earn money from technical support are going to do that a. k. a. paid hosting.
Then there is the search engine optimization side of things.
When you sign up for free hosting you add your domain name to their listing, true. But what occurs is that your url becomes a moot point. Your site gets indexed by search engines as being an extension on the hosting providers domain. This means that all your hard work in working to get your site to feature in search engine results is good for nought. All your links may point to your url, but so far as search engines are concerned they might as well point to nothing.
So, if you want to get quality hosting, pay for it. Free hosting is not really an option. Your site will never feature in search engine results , regardless of how much SEO you do and besides, if you actually want to present a competent image for your company or business enterprise, do you really think that having other companies' adverts and your free hosting provider's name spread all over your site is advisable?
