Website Promotion: Link Building with Videos

When I started my blog about a year ago, I wanted to see how my rankings would be affected if I promoted it with videos sincevideo marketing is a great way to get traffic. So I decided to run an experiment. I started uploading videos to Youtube, included my blog link in the description of each of them, and displayed little notes on the screen (annotations) to show my viewers where to click.

The results were quite surprising. After uploading about 30 videos, I was getting about 20 visitors per day on my blog (from Youtube ). The most viewed video was sending an average of 5 visitors every day. There were, however, two huge drawbacks to this promotion strategy.

First, the traffic was not target, which means only few read my articles. Most of them didn't even stayed more than 5 seconds. Nonetheless, I did get some Adsense clicks from my visitors.

Second, Google picked up my links in the description of my videos and added them as backlinks. And since my videos were not relevant to my blog topic, they didn't help me rank high in the serps. They were useless!

I didn't want to lose my rankings, so I stopped promoting the blog with videos. Instead, I found other ways to build links and rank high for certain keyword phrases.

Relevancy

The most important thing to remember when building links is to get relevant backlinks. This applies tovideo marketing as well. If you want to promote your site with videos and rank higher for certain terms, it's crucial to get backlinks from relevant videos. And of course, you can't just upload one video and expect to get tons of visitors.

Conclusion

Promoting websites with videos is a time consuming task, But it does yield good results depending on your effort. You can learn few tricks to master this promotion strategy with time. It is also one of the cheapest ways to get backlinks and drive traffic. I myself use video sharing sites to promote digital products such as ebooks, software, videos, etc.
