Website Promotion: Watermarking videos and Generating Type-in Traffic

One of the things I always do before uploading my videos is make sure that they are all watermarked with my domain URL

. For those unfamiliar with the term "watermark" invideo marketing, it's simply an image or logo that are displayed within videos for promoting a product or service.

You must be thinking "why am I spending so much time watermarking videos with my URL when I can simply put my link(s) in the description box?"

In my previous post, website Promotion: Link Building with Videos, I talked about how important relevant videos are when it comes to building links with videos. The ideal is to build links with videos that are related to the site you're promoting. So another question that still needs to be answered is "what do you do when your videos are irrelevant?" this brings me to answering both.

Irrelevant videos are not totally useless as many may think. They still can be used to generate what's known as type-in traffic.


What's type-in traffic?

Type-in traffic is a term referring to visitors landing on a site by typing a keyword or phrase in a web browser address bar, adding .com (or .net, .org, .ca, etc) rather than following a hyperlink, using a bookmark, or search engines. In other words, it's a direct traffic.

For example, if you were interested in online marketing, instead of using Google search engine to find what you want, you might want to enter "onlinemarketing.com" in the browser address bar to see if you can find a website of that address and that's about online marketing.

Properly implementing a video watermark is good way to drive type-in traffic even from irrelevant videos. And of course, the address of the site may already give a little idea to the visitor who, pushed by curiosity, would then type it in the address bar.

Adding Watermark to your videos

I'm currently using Sony Vegas to edit and watermark my videos. It does cost a little, but you can always use Windows Movie Maker (a free application that is usually pre-installed in Vista and XP) to watermark your videos.

Once you've watermarked your videos, the next step is to upload them to as many video sharing sites as possible. Remember that the more your videos are watched, the more you drive in type-in traffic. It is also a good idea to upload a constant amount of videos on a daily basis.


After uploading your videos on Youtube, I recommend you optimize them to attract viewers by choosing catchy titles, adding as many tags as you can, including some keywords in the description boxes, and choosing the right thumbnail for each video.
