While you think of designing a website, you have to keep in mind that you are not designing for a printing project. The design that looks good on your website do not necessarily looks the same when printed on a paper and vice-versa. If you are a designer, then you have to let your customers know through your designs only. You will do a big favor to them, by telling them what all you have in your layouts are not same which you will put over the website. sometimes the customers give a printed layout and say that they want designing to be done this way, if you find it unrealistic then you need to tell your customers that the website design cannot be created exactly same. There are various considerations like maintenance, downloading speed, which one cannot ignore while designing the website. Since you are designer you know the better aspects of designing a particular thing in the website. The factors are more important than the fancy graphics they want to have in their website. Preparing a portfolio is really important to grab the customers but again what all you have planned out in a portfolio is not exactly what your clients can see in their web design.
Even talented designer can come close to the designs but cannot duplicate the portfolios into web design. And only designing cannot represent any company or business until the website starts working. Also the color mode used for designing the website and that of the printed material is different. The quality of the picture cannot be achieved if same colors are used for both the purposes. There are many companies who provide both the services under one roof. But they have different portfolios for them, as the services and the products are totally different. They just need to know the requirements and the budget for creating the printed materials or the website design. After which they start up working for the same. The layout and the pages may look little different which you have finalized in the portfolio, due to the softwares and the applications used in designing it. Also there are various other considerations in designing a website; the website has its one consistent and elegant look which should appear the same in all browsers and having fast loading time, great content and easy functionality to reach to the maximum audiences.
