What makes a wedding beautiful? Perhaps the better question is what doesn't

? The love, the vows, the gowns, it's all gorgeous, but there are a few touches that can turn a beautiful wedding into an absolutely stunning one.

Location:

This past weekend I was invited to a wedding in Venice. I have been to many gorgeous weddings but there is nothing quite like being taxi boated through canals surrounded by gorgeous architecture, in a ball gown. Venice is a city so beautiful it almost feels unreal. The streets are narrow and it's a pain to get around but it is truly a gem in this world.

Cocktails on the green:

Summer weddings have the advantage of doing some parts outside. Cocktail receptions are the perfect thing to do in the garden after the church and before the dinner. Guests will have a chance to enjoy a nice breeze and the feeling of soft grass under their feet while mingling over some delicious peach belinis.

Outfits:

One of the best parts of a wedding is seeing what everyone is wearing. It's always nice to wear colour to weddings, after all they are celebratory occasions. Women can come in any colour, if their dress is touching the floor, their hair looks nice, and their makeup matches their outfit they are sure to be as beautiful as ever. Men have fewer options which means that their tuxedoes need to be even sharper and way more attention should be paid to the details. Sharp lines, shiny shoes and beautiful cufflinks are amongst those details I am referring to.

Food:

Everyone loves a wedding where the food is delicious and the booze is flowing. Menu decisions should be taken very seriously. A good idea is to start with something light, serve something more substantial for dinner and a deliciously sweet desert. Make sure that waiters know to always be topping up wine glasses and are happy to accommodate in whatever way they can.

Speeches:

Speeches are a lovely part of the wedding. They offer the nearest and dearest the chance to express their love for the bride and groom in a personal and sociable way. Of course, it often happens that there are too many speeches, they are too long or have too many inside jokes or references people won't understand. Keep speeches to a minimum and make sure that they have a balance of personal references as well as general stuff everyone can be touched by.

As with anything, beauty comes in the details, pay attention to those and you're sure to have a gorgeous wedding.
