Wedding Insurance - Have Your Cake and Eat It!

Of course we are talking here about wedding cake aren't we? We have all heard and seen the jokes about the wrong cake decorations or inappropriate ones on the tops of cakes at weddings, but it can be a real disappointment if one of your suppliers fails you on your big day. That is why we recommend that you take out some form of wedding insurance before embarking on planning your big day.

In our series of articles about the most common reasons for making a claim under your wedding insurance, we turn our attention to that forgotten army of people who, together, are the suppliers for your wedding day. We say forgotten, because often, in the heat of the moment, it is easy to overlook these people because your attention is fully committed to the main participants, i.e. the bride and groom. Of course, after them come the parents, the family and then the friends and finally the best man and the bridesmaids. So, it is easy to forget the unseen army of people who you have spoken to probably once or twice early on in your planning stage and simply left them to get on with it. Often, a period of a year or more can elapse before the wedding day, so a lot can and does happen in the intervening period.

Lets look at a reasonable list of the sorts of things you may have left to small supply companies:-

Wedding Attire

Wedding Rings

Photographer

Caterer

Stationery

Video

Cars and transport

Florist

That is not an exhaustive list by any stretch of the imagination, but let us just takes a closer look at any of those items, and the consequences of one of them failing to show on the day. How many wedding planners have a plan B in case of failure of these people?

Just by way of an example of some of the more unusual claims that insurers get when dealing with wedding insurance, there have been cases of vicars having to arrange taxis to the church because their vehicle breaks down at home, or they break down in transit. There has even been a claim for cutlery that was stolen on the night before the wedding day. So, do not rule out the improbable because history has shown us that the chances are that if it can happen, it will happen sooner or later. You just hope that it does not happen to you and if it does that you have the foresight to take out some wedding insurance to cover any financial losses that you would otherwise have to shoulder yourself.
