Wednesday Is D (For Dating) Day. But Thursday's Best For Sex

Well who'd have thunk it?

Wednesday is the best day of the week to go on a first date. But Thursday is

the best day for sex.That's the surprising verdict of a new piece of research that's just landed on our desk.

Now, of course, we know to take most of these so-called scientific surveys

with a healthy pinch of salt. But this one arrives courtesy of a pretty

reputable source - the London School of Economics. So we should take it a

little more seriously than most.

So what's their reasoning behind Wednesday being the optimum dating day? And

why is Thursday the No1 nookie day? Well, LSE researchers analysed each day

of the week and found that there was an activity which is best suited toeach day.

So, for instance, Monday is the best day to do some chilling out and

de-stressing. That's based on a study from the British Medical Journal which

found that you are 20 per cent more likely to die of a heart attack on a

Monday because of the after-effects of weekend partying and the stress of

going back to work.

Similarly, Tuesday is the best day for getting thing done because the

rational, left-side of our brain dominates thinking during the early part of

the week. (Well, at least according to the US Society for Industrial and

Organisational Psychology.)

Wednesday, however, is the really interesting day. Apparently, more than 40

per cent of 8,000 singles polled picked Wednesday as their ideal dating day.

Their reasoning, apparently was that if things go well, there's a useful

day's breathing space before Friday and a second bite at the cherry, as it

were. It's long enough to catch your breath, but not too long to fret over

that tricky second date. Whereas if things go badly, the proximity to the

weekend means that it won't be long before we can start looking for new love

afresh. Makes sense - kind of.

And why is Thursday so good for sex, I hear you all asking? Well, apparently

our natural cortisol energy levels, which stimulate sex hormones, are at

heir peak at this point in the week. And apparently they are at theultimate peakearly in the morning, when testosterone levels in men andoestrogen levels in women are up to FIVE times higher than during the restof the week. So set the alarm early for Thursdays I say!

Just to complete the picture, Fridays are good for quitting smoking because

your willpower is strongest during the first three days and you'll be more

relaxed during Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday is the best day to have a baby,because - according to the Office of National Statistics - your child has ahigher chance of being Prime Minister. (Six of the last 21 have been born onSaturdays.)

Finally, Sunday is the best day for going out to lunch. Cooking atraditional roast is apparently more stressful than going to the dentist, soSundays should be the day when you go out for a relaxing time and let someone else do the chores.
