Week 9 Nfl Preview: Oakland Raiders Expected To Beat Denver Broncos
Now with the Raiders very competitive in the AFC West for the first time in several years, another win over their hated rivals would add some sweetness to this burgeoning season.
Theyre also looking to two former Bengals to infuse new life in their offense.
Meanwhile, Denver is just looking to right the ship and get back in the open race in the division. The team might be helped with the possible return of its leading rusher.
Oakland has won the last four games against Denver, including a 23-20 win over the Broncos earlier this year. A win will give Oakland the season sweep for two straight years, which would be the first time either team would do that in this series since Denver in 2005-06.
Denver Broncos
The Broncos have lost four of their last five games following last week 25-10 loss at home to Detroit. Denver is 1-2 away from home, winning the last game in comeback fashion, erasing a 15-0 hole for an 18-15 overtime win at Miami two weeks ago.
The Broncos rank eighth in the league in rushing offense (126 ypg) but just 30th in passing (180 ypg). Top rusher Willis McGahee may return to the lineup this week, as hes rushed for 460 yards and a touchdown (4.5 yards per carry).
Tim Tebow has completed 46 percent of his passes for 412 yards and four touchdowns with one interception. Eric Decker has caught 30 balls for 359 yards and five TDs.
The Denver defense ranks 18th in the league against the run (118 ypg) and 19th against the pass (250 ypg), recording 18 sacks and forcing eight turnovers with one returned for a TD (Cassius Vaughn, interception). Wesley Woodyard leads the team with 56 tackles. Von Miller has six sacks and two forced fumbles.
Decker has a 90-yard punt return for a TD this year, Quan Cosby averages 27 yards per kickoff return and 12 yards per punt return, and Britton Colquitt averages 44 net yards per punt.
Oakland Raiders
The Raiders went into the bye week with a thud, losing 28-0 at home to Kansas City to break a two-game win streak. However, Oakland is tied with San Diego and Kansas City for the top spot in the AFC West.
Oakland is 2-2 at home, alternating wins and losses.The Raiders made some noise off the field recently, getting quarterback Carson Palmer from Cincinnati and recently signing receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh.
Palmer was 8-of-21 for 116 yards and three INTs in his debut last week. Overall, the Raiders rank second in the league rushing (159 ypg) but just 23rd in passing (206 ypg). Darren McFadden keys the run game with 614 yards and four TDS (5.4 ypc), while Michael Bush adds 237 yards and three TDs (4.0 ypc).
Regular starting QB Jason Campbell completes 61 percent of his passes for 1,170 yards and six TDs with four interceptions. The offensive line has given up just eight sacks. Darrius Heyward-Bey leads the receiving corps with 27 catches for 434 yards and one TD, with Denarius Moore chipping in two scores on 14 grabs and 212 yards.
The Oakland defense ranks 16th against the run (117 ypg) and 25th against the pass (266 ypg), compiling 16 sacks and forcing 11 turnovers. Tyvon Branch leads the unit with 56 tackles, adding one INT, one fumble recovery and a blocked kick. Richard Seymour has five sacks and Bruce Davis has two forced fumbles.
Jacoby Ford averages 35 yards per kickoff return, including a 101-yarder for a TD.
