Weight Loss Tips - The Science Behind Shedding Pounds

A weight loss plan that is effective must start with two things - a solid exercise plan and an eating plan that is balanced and nutritious

. Carbohydrates are an essential part to every diet, but the key to their consumption is moderation. No carb and low carb diets were all the rage in the past decade, but the long term health benefits are not as consistent as other diets.

Carbohydrate free diets do allow you to lose weight in the short term due to ketosis, which is the breakdown of protein and fat within your body to provide energy. Your body enters this mode of functioning because you are not giving yourself the carbs and glucose that you need to operate in a more efficient manner. Losing weight is something most of us want, but do we really want our bodies to essentially eat ourselves to reach our goals?

To make the situation even worse, when you stop following the no carbohydrate approach your body will store even more sugar and carbs to make up for what was previously lost. The result is even faster weight gain than normal, which can lead to you tipping the scales at a higher number than you did before you began the diet!

The key to true, long-term weight loss is a balanced approach that portions food correctly. Carbohydrates can be broken down into simple and complex forms. Simple carbohydrates generally lack nutritional value and they digested by your body very quickly. Conversely, complex carbohydrates consist of chains of sugars which take longer for your body to process and absorb the vitamins and nutrients. The latter type is what you want to feed your body, because the longer digestion process allows you to feel full for longer which can help control the amount you eat. These foods are rich in fiber which curb your hunger and regulate bowel movement.

In addition to carbohydrates, do not forget to mix in fresh vegetables, fruits and lean meats and fish. You must eat natural and nutritious foods if you really want to supercharge your metabolism and turn your body into a fat burning machine. Any diet that is devoid of a large aspect of your nutrition, such as carbohydrates, is never a good option for long term results. If you find good foods that you love and incorporate them into your diet, you can lose weight too.
