Weight Training Supplements That Are Too Often Ignored
Supplements have been around long enough for most people to know what works and what doesnt
. For example, protein shakes and creatine are supplements used by millions of weekend warriors each and every day. However, there are three supplements in particular that continue to be ignored in the vast majority of weight training regimens. The three supplements Im talking about are fiber, omega 3 fatty acids, and glucosamine and chondroitin.
Fiber is important not just for athletes but for every single man, woman and child alive today. Fiber deficiency in this world is rampant to say the least. Very few of us eat enough fruits and vegetables to achieve our recommended daily amount of fiber. Think of supplementing with fiber as an oil change for your body. It helps keep unnecessary waste out of the body keeping your insides fresh and clean and keeping you healthy. After all, what good is a weight training routine if were too sick to apply it? Fiber also helps the digestive system, lowers bad cholesterol levels and lowers the risk of many types of heart disease.
Omega 3 fatty acids (found in many types of fish) are another supplement that the world in general is extremely deficient. Many of us do not include enough fish in our diets and its a shame because the benefits of these omega 3 fatty acids are vast and not even fully understood at this point. Omega 3s can help fight inflammation, perfect for sore bodies resulting from strenuous weight training, but they can also help ward off many types of cancer and possibly even Alzheimers disease according to some recent studies. Its safe to say that all of us could greatly benefit from supplementing with Omega 3 fatty acids.
Glucosamine and Chondroitin are supplements aimed entirely at joint health and are substances naturally found in your body. Much like anti-inflammatory drugs and supplements, like omega 3s, they can help reduce the pain resulting from sore joints but unlike these drugs and supplements they do much more, like actually help repair the joints and connective tissue. This is another supplement that could surely benefit anyone, especially older adults, but really make sense for weight lifters as they tax their joints much more so then the common man.
There are certainly other supplements which could benefit people on a weight training regimen and that are vastly overlooked in todays supplement market but these are three that I really think are of dire importance and certainly three of the most overlooked on that list.
