Welcoming a Wireless 2011
Entering a new decade, it's clear to see that technology is advancing and we are striving to make most of our gadgets wireless. Bluetooth has become so popular that countless everyday gadgets use it; wireless headsets are being used for driving and cordless phones are more common than ever. But why are people so against wires in their homes?
There are many reasons why people are happy to see wires disappearing, though they probably won't fully disappear for a number of years yet. Wires mean we need an electricity source and items can't be used remotely. For some, they make a room look untidy. They are easily tangled and hard to unwind. They are also easily broken if not taken care of. This then calls for a replacement of the product and more expense for the consumer. If you're unfortunate enough to have mice then it's likely at some point, they have tried nibbling through the wires that connect your television set. This may make them faulty and need repairing. They are also the cause of accidents because of people tripping over loose wires. All of this is both costly and a hindrance on our daily lives.
Progression in technology means that these issues could soon become a thing of the past. Household items such as wireless phones, wireless kettles and wireless music stations have made life easier for the twenty-first century individual. One advance in particular is that of wireless controllers for gaming consoles.
The loss of wires in gaming means that controllers will last for longer without needing to be replaced. You will no longer need to tie up the wires of the controller to keep the room tidy, therefore the connection for the controller won't get damaged will have a longer lifespan - saving you money. It no longer restricts the gamer with regards to the distance which he has to be to from the console or television. Some wire lengths were too short and so the gamer was unable to sit down comfortably in a chair or was far too close to the television. The only downside to this is that most of the controllers are run on batteries which can be expensive. However, there are rechargeable battery packs available, and they can also usually be charged through the console itself.
Most consoles have gone with the idea, and as such the Xbox 360 wireless controller, the PlayStation 3 wireless controller and the Wii wireless controllers are all the most popular methods of playing games on each console. However, the Wii does require some wiring to connect some of the components together.
