There are different types of techniques followed during the welding process of steel
. Welding of steel depends upon various things including the thickness of steel and the type of stainless steel used for welding.
It also depends upon the industry for which it is being used. Let us consider the Aerospace, Nuclear and Food Service industry.
Food Service
Stainless steel is used in most food service industry and 300 series stainless steel is used for fabrication. Most hotel shelves and fast food counters are made up of stainless steel and they are usually fabricated from type 304.063 thickness stainless steel. Stainless steel used in food service must be free from rust and 304 stainless best suit and does not get affected by rust easily. Welds must be done carefully so that it does not have gaps which paves way for bacterias to enter easily. Back side of the welded area must be sealed with argon so that they can help to keep the bacteria away. Stainless steel can be used for wire brushing and the surface can be grinded smooth with an abrasive wheel. It can be cleaned and made perfect by cleaning the surface with alcohol.
Aerospace Welding
Aviation and aerospace industry use alloy of stainless steel and aluminum and it is available in different varieties. Stainless steel of grade 321,304 347 and 316 are used during the fabrication process. Greek ascoloy and Jethete M190 are also used during the fabrication process. PH like 15-5ph,15-7ph and 17-4 ph shows the precipitation hardening of steel. Metal alloy is difficult to weld because of various reactions produced by alloy elements present in these steel. Welding must be done carefully by the aluminum welder as the alloy metals can react so quickly.
Nuclear
Stainless steel is used in most nuclear piping systems and is welded using TIG.304L type of stainless steel is used during the fabrication process. Stick welding is used by the aluminum welder so that it can stay stronger for a long duration without getting affected by the various effects produced by the nuclear rays.
There are different types of welding used during the fabrication process and the welding technique must be chosen based upon the requirement and need of the item that has to be fabricated.
