A good rule of thumb is to see a guidance counselor when the time has come to get serious about college. Parents should go along and take in any necessary information as a way of preparing for what is ahead. Take a few trips to any schools that are up for consideration, Get a feel for the classes and the campus. What sounds great on paper, may not be a right fit in person.

First off any student going to college needs to make sure their field of study is supported by the selected schools. Every school does not have to be well-known, nor does it have to be the most expensive, to deliver a quality education.

Apply to more than one school. There are plenty West Virginia colleges to choose from, so never let the fear of rejection impede the application process.

Get applications in on time. There is nothing sadder than wasting time submitting all of the information, only to find a deadline has been missed.

If a school does not fall within budget, but is desirable, apply anyway. Schools often have scholarships or work with students to get financial aid. Some school offer installment plans, allowing student to pay tuition monthly, or even quarterly.

Once having been accepted in any West Virginia colleges, be prepared to put in hard work. Remember attending college will be an enlightening experience and may cement how one is for the rest of their life.
