Wet Bars Require Some Thought & Planning
Wet bars are not something that can be thrown together without some planning and thought
. There are many considerations to ensure that all factors are correct, otherwise there can be fundamental problems. Installing a pre-built bar makes it easier, however there are still a number of things to consider before installation. From the space that the bar takes up to the plumbing and electrical issues, everything must be right or it can lead to a disaster.
Durability Is Key
Though it may not seen that the bar would need to be sturdy, it must or else they can move when guests are enjoying their drinks. People notoriously lean against countertops while they are visiting with others. If the counter top is not securely attached to the floor, it can move and even become dangerous, not to mention embarrassing. Using anchor bolts to secure the wet bars to a concrete floor and using appropriate waited materials ensure that it goes nowhere. For wood floors, wooden braces can be used to secure the bar. If plywood is used in the construction of the bar it should be a minimum of 3/4 inches to add bracing and stability.
Material Choices
Wet bars as can be made up of many different kinds of materials. While the structure is generally wooden the counter top can be made of granite, solid surfacing material, tile, plastic laminate or marble. Much of the countertop material depends on the intended use of the wet bar and whether it is meant to be formal or casual. Some choose to put the bar in a formal dining area, meaning that the materials would need to match the overall feel of the room. Wet bars in basements or outdoors can be more informal if the owners so desires.
