Renting a car can be a costly business, especially if you cause any damage that wasn't originally on the vehicle. Most people tend to rent a cheap run around to ensure that if they do any damage, it is relatively easy to pay, and cheap on their bank balance.

But a couple in San Diego experienced the other side of this, when they rented a fifty thousand dollar corvette, and it was driven into the sea.

The couple claim that they went to the pub near Pacific Beach, and got talking to a man. When he told them he had never driven a corvette, they allowed him to borrow the car.

It was reported to the police when the corvette was seem doing doughnuts and spin outs on the sane, before getting stranded in the shallow surf of pacific beach.

A 39 year old man and his 36 year old wife were detained at a local police station and ordered to sober up.

The couple later admitted that they had been passengers in the car, and that the driver had run from the vehicle. The suspected driver hasn't been found, and thoughts are that perhaps there was no man, but if found he will be fined heavily for getting the police, fire and ambulance departments out to the scene.

Locals were amused to see the expensive car sat in the surf, with waves going over the bonnet and eventually into the convertible.
