Wet Weather Driving Tips From Ron Carter Dodge

When most drivers think of the type of weather which causes hazardous driving conditions, snow and ice are the first things to come to mind. While these conditions certainly increase the likelihood of being in an accident, there is another weather condition which is often overlooked as being dangerous. At Ron Carter Dodge, drivers are reminded that rainy conditions are responsible for thousands of accidents annually. It is important for drivers to acknowledge the hazards of driving in the rain and make the necessary adjustment to their driving habits in wet weather.

Water and oil don't mix- The most dangerous time for drivers in rainy conditions is within the first few hours of a new rainfall. Honda car dealers remind drivers that during a dry period, grease and engine oil have an opportunity to build up on the roadways. When rain mixes with this layer of oil and grease, the conditions can quickly become as slick as ice. Drivers are encouraged to use extreme caution when driving in rain, especially at the beginning of a rainfall.

Visibility issues- There are several factors at play during rainy conditions which reduce visibility. Windows tend to fog up while at the same time heavy rainfall can make it impossible to see a foot in front of the vehicle. Drivers must slow down when these conditions are present and allow plenty of room in between vehicles. Headlights should be turned on whenever you need to use your windshield wipers. This makes your vehicle more easily spotted by other drivers.

Standing water- The Ron Carter Team offers the following advice regarding standing water; do not try to drive through flooded roadways. If you can't see the roadway, you have no idea how deep the water or what is underneath the water. You may drive over debris, or find yourself in submerged in water deeper than you anticipated. In either situation, the consequences may be far more damaging for your vehicle or your life.
