What A Digital Arts School In The Philippines Lacks

Most Filipinos have a deep regard for education and consider it as a primary means

to improve their economic status and lift their families from impoverishment. Thus, every year, there are about 500,000 graduates in the Philippines. Of this, 4 out of 10 new graduates and young jobseekers are not hired because they lack three key qualities that human resources and recruitment personnel look for in a candidate. These are critical thinking, initiative, and effective communication skills.

Furthermore, in a GMA News report, dated March 3, 2012, the People Management Association of the Philippines stated that firms across various industries consider those three qualities, or soft competencies, that jobseekers must possess not only to be able to join the labor force but also to have a well-paying job and consequently give them financial freedom.

At present, as generally known to everyone, among sectors of industries in the country, cyber services in new media art, such as animators, web developers, and digital designers, are one of those that require high standard of requirements that must be met by candidates to get the job. Unfortunately, the training and skills of some college graduates do not match the needs of both local and overseas labor markets.

To solve this workforce problem, Information Technology, multimedia, and digital arts schools in the Philippines that are offering ICT education must improve their curriculums, and training programs and involve students in relevant extracurricular activities, as well as their immersion in the real world and in multi-tasking situations to develop their competencies.

Though education is a lifelong process, a student must be enrolled in an institution that fosters an environment of academic and practical learning and personal growth such as CIIT to equip them with 21st century skills. CIIT is one of the emerging digital and IT colleges in the Philippines.

It involves students in different activities and gatherings that provide special opportunities to hear the success stories and experiences of and meet in person the prominent personalities in several multimedia and digital sectors all over the country and abroad that may encourage them to further hone their craft. In fact, CIIT participated in the most anticipated event in the entire multimedia and digital landscapethe recently concluded Graphika Manila 2012held at SMX Convention Center at Mall of Asia. With more than 3,000 attendees, 150 of whom are from CIIT, who are not only spectators but also contributors that showcase their talents and creativity.

In as much as CIIT recognizes the difficulties and struggles of new graduates to enter the labor market and the desire to ensure the competency of its graduates as they fulfill their lifelong dreams in various new media art sectors, the school has decided to have the best contemporary artists in the field as panelists on the final hurdle of graduating studentsthe defense of their thesis.

Apart from thesis defense under some of the outstanding personalities in the sector, CIIT has established partnerships with leading firms in the industry, such as IBM Corporation, Anino Games, and Go-Live Pacific, to help graduates enter the workforce immediately after graduation.

With affordable industry-relevant courses and world-class education utilizing 21st century facilities and software packages, CIIT is established as a viable option from the hundreds of multimedia and digital arts schools in the Philippines that are providing Information and Communications Technology education in the country.
