What About Mother Earth?

This Sunday, across the nation, many Americans are celebrating Mothers Day.

Giving Mom flowers or candy and taking Mom to Brunch/Dinner is customary. Now of course, we should be sure that the flowers we give are organic and eco-friendly, and that the candy she receives is Fair Trade certified. Instead of taking her to Brunch/Dinner, why not make her a healthy, organic meal at home? It would be less expensive and would reduce your Carbon Footprint on Mother's Day (and most other holidays).

However, we all tend to forget about our second mother on this day.

Mother Earth.

Mother's Day is a day where we celebrate and give thanks to our Mom's for all that they've done. After all, they gave birth to us! But what about Mother Earth? Hasn't she given us life? Doesn't she continue to give us life? She gives us everything and yet asks very little from us. Shouldn't we show some appreciation and give back to Mother Earth much like we do for our own mothers on Mother's Day?

Before you visit Mom on Sunday, do something for Mother Earth. Whether it's planting a tree, gardening, picking up trash/recyclables in your neighborhood or walking to your local store instead of driving (if possible) Mom (Mother Earth and your own) sure would appreciate it.

Too busy on Mother's Day to do any of the above? No problem! How about purchasing a Carbon Offset to offset some (if not all) of your Carbon Footprint for the year?

Of course we just celebrated Earth Day just a few short weeks ago. And many of us already did some of things I've already suggested earlier. However, most of you do something for your mother on her Birthday and on Mother's Day. If you think about Earth Day being the equivalent of a birthday for Mother Earth, why wouldn't you do something for her on Mother's Day?

This doesn't make you "eco-crazy", it makes you "eco-logical". Think about it and give your mom a hug for me on Sunday
