What Are Cheap Police Lights?

. Despite the fact that the right duty gear is the greatest performance enhancers, everyone does their best to combine economy and quality. So it is nothing surprising that those, who need to use police lights, go in search of cheap police lights.

However, the right definition of cheap police lights is a disputed question. Halogen lights, which have conventionally been used in all emergency vehicles like police cars, fire engines, ambulances etc., are definitely cheaper as price tags go. Where a mini light bar that uses halogen technology will come within the price range of $50 to $100, an LED light bar of roughly the same size may cost something between $300 and $500.

So halogen lights are definitely cheap police lights, especially if the vehicle is not to be used continuously. There are construction vehicles, delivery trucks etc. which may need to use their lights only when parked, and may require only small lights necessary to alert other vehicles of their presence. Likewise there are volunteer firefighters who may need to use their emergency lights only occasionally. For them halogen lights may turn out to be economical even though power consumption of halogen is more than that of LED.

For police patrol vehicles that need to be used consistently, halogen lights may not work out as cheap police lights. Though a halogen light bar may be cheap price-wise, when used continuously for years, its high power consumption will partially cancel out the price benefit. Further, LED lights are highly durable, a bulb being usable for decades whereas halogen bulbs may require replacement. This too will make it less cost effective.

Still, energy efficiency and durability alone will not qualify LED lights to be considered cheap police lights. When police vehicles sport large light bars on the roof of the vehicle, the drag coefficient of a vehicle will be high due to wind resistance. As against this, if a low profile light bar, or a light bar mounted inside the vehicle can be used, the aerodynamics efficiency of the vehicle will improve, thereby resulting in increased fuel efficiency. So, if a light bar, besides being durable and energy efficient, will help in reducing the drag coefficient as well, it will further qualify for becoming cheap police lights.

Over and above all this, the way in which a light bar is used will also decide if it will turn out to be cheap police lights in the long run. LED lights will last a few decades, so far as it is well maintained. This means that it will have a much longer life than the vehicle on which it will be used. If the users are indifferent to this quality of the LED light bar and will choose to dispose it off with the vehicle, then it will definitely not work out to be cost effective and will only turn out to be expensive. If so, conventional halogen lights will turn out to be cheap police lights.

In short, whether the lights will work out to be cheap or not will be decided by how they are used.
