What Are Debit Visa Cards?
Debit visa cards are everyday use cards that are also known under the names 'Visa debit cards' and 'Visa check cards'
. They work in largely the same way as a check, but provide additional security features and convenience benefits that checks do not offer.
The card can be used to pay for goods and services anywhere that displays the Visa sign, including online stores, high street shops, fast food outlets, and gas stations, as well as for paying your monthly bills. The appropriate amount of money is then deducted from your checking account.
The main difference here is that you are spending your own money, - this card is not a credit card and you cannot go into debt with it. If you do not have enough money in your account to cover your purchase the transaction will be declined.
As you are not being extended any form of credit, you are not charged an annual percentage rate of interest (APR), as the balance of the card can never be lower than zero. Neither will you have to make a monthly minimum payment.
The main advantage is convenience. Using debit visa cards is much easier than carrying around large amounts of cash or using a check book, which can become time consuming and tiresome, especially if you are purchasing a number of items from a number of different stores. They are also more widely accepted than checks, with millions of locations worldwide accepting visa debit.
These cards also are a good option for people that do not want to get themselves into debt, those who have a poor history and are unable to get other cards, and people who simply do not like the idea of having a credit card and borrowing money.
There are several other additional benefits. The card allows you to quickly and easily withdraw money from your checking account, as you will be provided with a four-digit PIN number to be used in ATM's both at home and abroad. You can change your assigned PIN number to one that you can easily remember.
They also provide a zero liability policy, meaning any funds taken from your account through fraudulent means will be refunded to you, and you will not be held responsible. You also receive a monthly paper statement and/or online account access.
Before applying you should read the cardholder agreement, and make sure you fully understand its terms and conditions. There may be charges for certain transactions you make, possible monthly or annual fees and also charges for withdrawing cash from ATM's.
Overall, we recommend these especially for people that are unsure about getting a credit card. They encourage good financial practices, and as a result are also ideal for young people looking for their first piece of plastic.
