What Are Invisible Dental Braces And How Do They Work?

Invisible Braces often called aligners and also known in the dental industry as Invisalign

, work by applying optimal pressure on the teeth you want adjusting to give you that perfect smile. This new exciting technology is rapidly replacing the common metal braces we are more familiar with. Invisalign braces are also very effective, they are computer designed to apply the correct amount of pressure to each tooth simultaneously and achieve tooth alignment in a very short space of time, all the while remaining practically invisible to all but the closest of scrutiny.

Invisalign braces are made by the dentists taking an initial impression of your teeth. This impression is digitised into a computer model, then specialised software is used to create a series of moulds numbering about 12 to 48 in total. Each mould is generated to apply the optimal amount of pressure to each tooth as it starts to move to its target position.

A set of braces are replaced every two to three weeks with the next one in the series to keep applying pressure on those teeth after they have started moving into place. When you wear a new brace it can feel slightly uncomfortable at first and feels as though it does not fit correctly. This is because the brace has to effectively apply pressure and push your teeth into their correct place. With the old metal braces you had to keep going back to the dentist to have them adjusted to the next level or tension, whereas with Invisalign you just pop the next brace in the series in every couple of weeks, no hassle and no extra visits to the dentist.

The braces have the added advantage of the wearer being able to remove them when required, like when eating or attending an important business meeting. Because they can be simply put in and taken out like a gum shield it makes installation much quicker than their metal predecessors.

Another advantage of Invisalign braces are they are much easier on the gums. People wearing the metal ones would often complain of mouth ulcers or sore gums where the metal would rub against the soft skin in your mouth. This ailment has now been made a thing of the past with this new technology.

Invisalign braces have the advantage of being able to correct almost all misalignments, the only limitations are teeth that are very crowded and teeth that have not fully broken through the gum. Because they are practically invisible it makes them a very popular choice with teenagers and school kids.

Depending on the severity of the misaligned teeth it can take about 9 to 12 months to correct your teeth, which is much faster than the old metal braces.
