What Are Kangaroo Hats?

Kangaroo hats are comfortable headgear that have been designed for use in the Australian bush

. They feature a wide brim on its entire circumferences to offer protection against the hot sun, and look a lot similar to a cowboy hat that was popular back in the days of the wild West.

The hat is often made from soft leather, which makes it foldable and lightweight. There are several brands and models to choose from but basically, they all have the following features:

Made from kangaroo or other kinds of soft leather

Although kangaroo hats can also be made from other materials, kangaroo leather is often the material of choice. This is because of the vast number of kangaroos that are living in Australia. There are over a hundred species of kangaroos that are living in the country.

They number in the millions and most of them are living in the wild. They cannot just be hunted down for their leather though as only licensed hunters are permitted by the Australian government to hunt down these animals. They hunt kangaroos under strict government supervision and are only allowed to do so to cull overpopulated areas.

Kangaroo leather is very light and strong. The leather that is used in the making of an Australian hat often has variations and scarring but these are considered normal. In fact, marks and scratches are considered features that make each hat unique.

Kangaroo hats look classy but practical. They have been made for the rugged conditions of the Australian Outback but you do not have to go there to enjoy its comforts. You can use it for shade and comfort or any activity that requires you to stay outdoors for significant periods of time. You simply cannot go wrong with a Kangaroo Hat!
