What Are Man Made Diamonds

Natural diamonds have been created by nature over millions or even billions of years

where the basic material, carbon, has been subjected to enormous temperatures and pressures beneath the earths crust and spuwed out through pipes to reach the surface in the best of cases or remain below ground in the worst.

So to manufacture man made diamonds is not an easy thing to do, however, it has been done both by the US company Westinghouse and the Russians in the past.

To do this and realise the transformation a huge investment is required and the diamonds produced are not big, quite to the contrary, fairly small and not necessarily white in colour.

What they are and which is why the investment has been made, is that they are void of imperfections and can, therefore be used extensively in industry especially for drilling bits, cutting tools etc. as diamond is the hardest material known to man.

Man made diamonds are not really used for diamond jewellery purposes as it is cheaper to use naturally provided diamonds mined all over the world and supply is not, in the future, known to diminish in the same ways that oil is becoming scarce and dearer as time passes.

There are also, within the trade other so-called man made diamonds, which, in fact are not real diamonds at all such as Moissanite and cubic zirconium, both these are hard but do not come close to the hardness of diamonds and will deteriorate in a ring with time, losing their sparkle and shine.

A real man made diamond will have EXACTLY the same characteristics as natural diamonds but may look different than those having been made by nature as they have been made within a closed and controlled environment which has kept a lid on the shape evolved from the manufacturing process.

It is not worth purchasing, at this point in time, man made diamonds for jewellery purposes, however, there is a company, in the USA, which claims it can make a diamond for you which can contain an ash of your lost partner or met, therefore creating an eternal resting place for the particular remain.
