As these lenses have gradual increase of power, without any visible lines, there is no occurrence of image jump resulting in a smoother transition among various powers. Like the bifocals, the upper half is used in distance viewing while the lower half for nearer ones. The middle region is used for viewing objects at an intermediate range, for example computers.
