What Are Search Engine Indexing Limits?
Different people have different opinions regarding search engine
indexing. There is always a debate as regards to how much text
SE's index? How good are static pages? How to achieve the balance
between a short page (which search engines may regard as "non-
informative") and a long one (that may leave important information
beyond the scope of the spiders)?
Here are some of the rules that affect search engine indexing:
External Linking:
Certain search engines like HotBot and Google tend to ignore sites
which have no external links. Or, they might index the main page,
but decline indexing any other page till the time the website
receives at least a couple of links from some other domain. They
may even index the website for a while, but "prune" the database
afterward if the site doesn't receive any link from other websites
within a particular duration of time. Hence, it's very important to
establish links for search engine indexing.
Spider blocks:
Websites that necessitate registration or password cannot be
indexed by spiders. Spiders cannot complete or fill in any kind of
application. The solution is to create static pages which engines can
index without having to perform other actions on the website.
Pertaining to the database system being used by the site owner,
there are programs which assist in this. There are also companies
which can be hired to perform this task.
Submission Constraints:
When trying to optimize a site, it is important to pay attention to
the number of submissions made each day. Most engines are
sensitive to this issue and dislike more than a particular number of
submissions. If the domain exceeds the number, the submissions
are ignored or even banned.
Some consultants believe that it's unsafe to submit more than a
single page (per web site) every day to a search engine.
Non-Indexable Data:
It's significant to know the kind of content that does not come
under search engine indexing. Most search engines are unable to
index text which is embedded in pictures or images. Also, text
displayed in audio and video files is not indexed.
Most average engines do not have the sophistication to index info
generated by Flash files, XML, or Java applets.
Redirects:
If the website contains meta-refresh tags or redirects, it may not get
indexed properly. Normally, a search engine will index the webpage
which it is forwarding to, but if it feels that the owner is trying to
trick the engine by using IP redirection tool, "cloaking", it is
possible that it may not index the website.
Random Mistakes And Faults:
At times, the engines miss random submissions because of a bug
or technical difficulties. After all, these engines manage a database
which consists of several millions of web pages. Consequently,
some owners resubmit twice or thrice in a month for surety in case
a submission gets lost.
Surely, by following the aforementioned rules, the websites will
definitely get listed and not face problems with search engines.
