1. Black screen while starting Windows 7

What can be more frustrating than a situation when the entire screen turns black? This may be caused due to some problem with the graphics card or the connecting cable. So the first thing you need to do is to check if the monitor is properly plugged into the power socket or not.

Another possibility could be an outdated graphics card driver that is creating this problem. To get rid of this, you may try to update the driver of the graphics card. You can find the appropriate driver for the graphics card either from the manufacturer's website or from the web. Go for the option that suits you more and download the driver.

2. Upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7 does not go beyond 62% While upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7 your computer might get become unresponsive. This happens when 62 percent of the installation is complete. This probably happens because a service stops responding. In order to resolve this problem you need to restart your computer and let it roll back to Windows Vista. Then you will need to follow the below mentioned steps.

Click on 'Start' then right click on 'My Computer' and then scroll down to 'Properties' to select the 'Advanced' system settings appearing at the left side of the menu. Now click on the 'Environment Variables' then on the 'New' button appearing under 'System Variables'.

Now you need to type MIG_UPGRADE_IGNORE_PLUGINS in the variable name field and 'IphlpsvcMigPlugin.dll' in the variable value field then click 'OK'. Click on 'OK' again to close the 'Environment Variable' box. Likewise, click 'OK' to close the system properties box. Close the process by shutting down your computer. Now you can easily upgrade your Vista to Windows 7 OS.

3. Windows fails to update the important updates

Usually, Windows 7 is very good at installing updates but occasional issues cannot be ruled out. In such cases you can try installing these updates manually. To do that first click on Start >> All Programs >> and then Windows Updates. Here move your cursor towards the left pane to click on "Check for Updates" >> 'Install Updates.

Now onwards you will be able to install the important updates manually. However, you will have to accept the Microsoft License terms to install the updates.

4. Windows 7 gives the message "Access is Denied" while you are trying to open a file or folder

If you are denied access to a file/folder and getting the above mentioned message then you need to check whether you have the rights to open it or not. You need to right click on the particular file or folder and click on 'Properties' by going down in the list. Now select the 'Security' tab and click 'Users' falling under 'Group or Users Name'. Here under 'Permissions' you will be able to see the users who are permitted to open the particular file or folder. If you are not permitted to open it then try doing it by logging in as 'Administrator'.

5. Not able to log in as your user account is locked

If you are trying to log in your account with a wrong password your account might get locked on your Windows 7 system. In such cases, you can open your system by logging in as an administrator, provided you have created an admin account on your system. If you have not created an admin account then below mentioned steps can help you unlock your system.

First click on 'Start' and type"lusrmgr.msc" in the search box.

Now press 'Enter' to enable the 'Local users and groups' utility.

Take your cursor now to the left pane and select the 'Users' entry.

Double click on the locked user account in the list appearing at the right pane.

In the 'General' tab deselect 'Account is locked out' and then click 'OK' and close the 'Local users and groups utility.'

Log out of Windows and log in again with the user name, you will now be able to log in successfully.
