What Are The Different Types Of Bail?

There are a lot of events that can lead a person to be arrested

. A person may be arrested for a minor offense such as traffic rules violation. The arrestee with a minor offense is usually given a citation at the scene and he or she will be released without booking. However, people who are arrested for serious offenses are booked in jail unless they can pay bail. Bail is a process wherein the arrestee pays a set amount of money to obtain conditional release from the custody of the police.

What is bail? A lot of people have no idea what bail is all about. For arrested criminals, they have the right to pay a certain amount of money which is set by a court judge in order to gain temporary release from police custody. Criminals with serious offenses, excluding murder and violent felonies, have the right to be released on jail. However, this is a conditional release which means that the arrested individual must promise to appear in court for their their scheduled court dates. If the arrestee fails to appear in court, he or she will be immediately arrested and the amount of bail paid will not be reimbursed.

There are different types of bail but some of them are hardly used. The type of bail which is usually used by criminals is the cash bail. This means that the arrestee will pay in cash the full amount of the bail. However, it can also be paid through credit card or check. Another commonly used type of bail is the surety bond. This is also called as the bail bon and can be utilized for any amount of bail. Bail bonds are made when the arrestee cannot afford the amount set as bail. Bail bonds work when the arrestee or his or her family or friend contacts a bail agent. The bail agent is backed by a surety company and he or she pledges to pay the full amount of the bond if the arrestee doesn't appear in court. The arrestee will need to pay 10 percent of the bail amount and the bail agent may also collect some collateral.

Aside from bail bonds and cash bonds, the arrestee can also provide some property as collateral and will act as a bond and this is called property bond. If the arrestee fails to attend his or her court trials, the court will foreclose the property to recover the forfeited bail. These are just three of the different types of bail that the arrestee can make use of.
