What Are The Main Benefits Of Regular Meditation
?
When meditation was first introduced to the western world from the east it was presented within the spiritual context in which it developed, as a part of Buddhism, Hinduism and Yoga, or Chinese Daoism. And of course the spiritual aspect is still very important today to a large proportion of the people who regularly engage in some form of meditation practices. But the ethereal spiritual benefits of these practices cannot be measured or defined, and are in any case expressed differently according to which tradition you happen to believe in or follow, so these are not what I want to talk about here.
Today there is a much greater understanding of the practical, physical, measurable benefits of various forms of meditation than there ever was in the past, and as a result of this many people are learning to meditate who have little or no interest at all in the spiritual side of it, and are only interested in these material benefits. If you are interested in learning more about what you ccould gain from meditating then you will find a list below of the main benefits.
Reduced levels of stress, both in terms of how you feel, and hormonal changes in the body. Plus reduced levels of tension being held in the muscles and other areas of the body which means better health and lower risk of injury.
Increased feelings of calmness, and resulting from that a greater ability to deal with whatever life throws at you without becoming angry, frustrated or stressed out
Fewer minor illnesses - it has been clinical proven that people who regularly are regularly meditating get fewer colds than would otherwise be expected from the average person. There is every reason to believe that this also apllies to a wide range of other minor illnesses
Improved ability to heal and recuperate from illness and injury - due to the lower levels of stress related hormones in the body which impede these processes. This also means in many cases an improvement in the condition of chronic or long term conditions, from diabetes to allergies to regular migraines.
Improved concentration, which means an improved ability to do well in a wide range of mental tasks
Increased feelings of tranquility, happiness and satisfaction with life
And that is in no way meant as an exhaustive list - those are only the main ones so I whole heartedly recommend regular meditation practice (it does have to be regular to get all of those benefits) to anyone. And I'm sure that you will agree that all of these many benefits that are there for the taking are well worth 5 - 10 minutes per day of anyone's time - so what are you waiting for, get meditating today!
