Medical treatments for cancer are one definite cause for this condition in women. The primary treatment that causes this is chemotherapy. Hair loss is traumatic to begin with, and women undergoing cancer treatment can readily find supportive and helpful information in this area. There are even charities that are devoted to helping women find wigs that are made out of real hair so that they can look as "natural" as possible while they wait for their hair to start growing back on its own.

The name for the primary cause of thinning and the baldness is, alopecia areata. The reason for it is an autoimmune disorder condition. But you cannot detect this by yourself. You'll need to see your doctor, and he/she will make that determination. If you notice that your hair is getting thin or that you are starting to lose it, contact your doctor. The bright side of this is that it is treatable. It can be treated because it is an autoimmune problem. Menopause has the distinction of causing hair loss in a huge majority of cases with women. A woman experiencing menopause undergoes massive bodily changes including hair loss. It's quite common for an increase in the amount of hair loss in post-menopause than any other time.
