A blanket throw is a form of bed linen. It is essentially a medium size blanket measuring 3 feet by 5 feet. Most people dont understand the difference between blankets and throws. A throw is different from other blankets because it is decorative in nature.

Throw blankets are usually made of rayon, silk, fleece, cotton, fur, velvet, chenille or a blend of cotton and polyester. Rayon throws are very popular right now because they are more attractive and less expensive than their 100% cotton counterparts. The material used for weaving a throw is largely determined by its use.

Throws can be classified based on their use as sofa throws, couch throws, comforter throws, bed throws, rug throws and blanket throws. Bed throws are usually made of wool or fleece and are thus, very warm. Sometimes, wool is combined with silk to make the throw even softer.

Based on style, throws can be classified as quilted throws, decorative throws, crochet throws, woven throws, embroidered throws and plain throws. A quilted throw has wool between the two sheets of fabric. Crochet throws are mainly used for decoration. Hand-woven embroidered throws are made from organza, cotton or silk and are very beautiful. A throw can either be traditional or contemporary in design. Thus, they can be used in all types of home-dcor.
