Knowing the strategies for each race and map is essential for being the best player you can be. If you are struggling in any particular area in a game a strategy guide can really help alleviate some of the problem.

Each map will have it's own quirks that if you can learn them it may turn a defeat into a victory. Some will have choke points that if you can lure your enemy into them you are very likely to take out the bulk of their army in one fell swoop.

If you get stuck in a few places in the campaign it can really help to know the best way to clear a stage to progress the story. Knowing blizzard and their writing staff you definitely want to play through the campaign.
Cons

Some people want to have to learn the maps as they go along. This is okay, but it can lead to some defeats you may not have had otherwise.
2) Campaign spoilers
This is the biggie here. Some gamers can not resist reading ahead and knowing what happens in the story. If you want it to remain a surprise then you may want to shy away.
In my opinion the pros far outweigh the cons as far as buying a Starcraft 2 strategy guide. The cons mainly come in the form of spoilers and for the most part that isn't an overly huge deal. The vast majority of gamers will buy StarCraft 2 for the multiplayer content, so most guides will focus quite a bit on it. Learning other strategies and techniques will help you overcome any players you face.
