What As9120 Is All About

The AS 9120 Standard is a specific term used when referring to the requirements for

the QMS or the Quality Management System, which is based on the AS 9100 that adds more than a hundred of additional requirements. These requirements are actually specific for distributors or the suppliers of aircraft components such as fasteners, gaskets, electronics and a lot more that relates to the aerospace, aviation and defense industry.

This is like a policy that ensures the corporations know how to handle the goods properly and track the goods from OEM to the customers. This 'policy' was created and continuously being developed in order to pass them through major corporations that distributes aerospace items and addresses issues like traceability, control, chain of custody and record availability.

Major corporations that manufacture and produce materials, parts and assemble all aerospace-related products and sell them out to the specific industry of aviation, defense and space markets will have to abide through this 'policy.' This will include all organizations that get their products from reliable supply chain and then split these products to more manageable and smaller quantities.

The AS9120 is a standard that is not applicable for companies, corporations or organizations that rework, innovate or repair existing products. However, companies, corporations and organizations that perform work that could influence product performance, quality, characteristics or conformity needs to abide with the AS9100 standard or any other standard that assures quality management system.

The AS9120 certification is a standard applicable for many organizations that distribute, store and resell parts that are usually found in aerospace components although value-added distributors are not included in this clause secondary to the changes made in the customer products. Common terminologies used in this field include ASA (Aviation Suppliers Association), IDEA (Independent Distributors of Electronics Association) and ERAI (Electronic Resellers Association International).

The AS9120 standard is being regulated by the International Aerospace Quality Group or the IAQG. It gives the opportunity for products to improve in traceability, quality and reduction of risk among other benefits. It also aligns your company to the standards for best practices in the aerospace market.
