What Bike Is Best For Me?

There's plenty of choice when it comes to buying your next bike

. Most people can be blown away by the looks of the bike and not necessarily its practicality or purpose. This is why it's important to not jump straight on the first bike you see, however tempting it may be. Take your time to look through this brief guide on the main styles and types of bike out there, and see what suits you best.

Mountain Bikes

If you're keen on doing some serious two wheeled exploring, then take a look at a mountain bike. There are so many different types of mountain bike out there, from hard tails (front suspension only) to full suspension downhill beasts. What you buy is all down to how serious you take your off roading, and of course your budget.

Decide beforehand what you expect to do on your mountain bike, and what your skill level is.

Road Bikes

You don't need to be the next Bradley Wiggins to be able to ride a road bike. If you do a lot of commuting or general road biking you need to be sure you've got a cycle that isn't difficult to ride, and one that gets up to speed quickly. Road bikes are made for tarmac, if your cycle route contains any off road or muddy tracks forget it, this isn't the bike for you. However, road bikes are by far the most efficient way to commute without using a car.

Hybrid Bikes

These bikes are also great commuting and trail bikes. With strong frames and special hybrid tyres they're perfect for the odd muddy path and flat tarmac. With mountain bikes they lack pace and speed on roads, but excel with rough terrain. While with a road bike you'd be extremely brave to take it off road. So, a hybrid gives you the best of both worlds.

Electric Bikes

They've come a long way since they were first brought into the cycling world. You'd be forgiven to think that all electric bikes are heavy, unwieldy things that once the battery depletes they're impossible to ride. Most new electric bikes have longer charges so you can go further, and if the charge runs out you don't have to be built like the hulk in order to cycle it home.

Choosing the right bike for you is key. Think of it as an investment. Take your time to figure out what you need, and then take a look at the different types available.
