Severed tree roots are one of the most common reasons for why trees fall down
, even the largest and oldest trees on your property. Although you may not think that you have severed the roots, or in most cases, that someone else has done so, the root systems of some trees can be extensive and go well beyond what you might think.
If you suspect that your tree has suffered severed tree roots, then the first thing that you should do is call a local arborist. Even if the incident has just occurred, they will be able to tell if permanent damage has been done to the tree, whether it can be saved, and what needs to be done.
Another reason why you may need the help of an arborist is if your trees roots (no matter how far away from the tree they are) have been severed by neighboring construction. This is a very common occurrence when a new building is built next to an older property. Most construction companies dont take into account the size of a trees root systems, especially in the case of older, more established trees.

In other instances, if the tree cannot be saved, they will be able to give you not only an estimate on having it removed, but also a replacement price, which can be much more than you think and may well surprise the person who severed the roots.
