There are quite a lot of overlapping theories about the causes of psoriasis
. Psoriasis is a non-contagious skin condition and affects 1-3% of the total population in the world. The common symptoms of the condition include silvery patches, reddish lesions and excessive dry skin on different parts of the body. There are different kinds of psoriasis; however the most occurring form is called plaque psoriasis. There are no definite causes of this kin condition, but there are several theories existing amongst the medical communities.
There has been some considerable research on whether gene mutations could be a cause for psoriasis or not. Gene mutations usually affect some cells in such a way that they tend to function abnormally. As far as psoriasis is concerned, the T helper cells seem to be the ones creating problem.
People with a weaker immune system are prone to acquire psoriasis. A specific group of white blood cells (also referred to as T-cells) in the body would lead to hyperactivity. The skin cells would multiply at a faster pace. Therefore the dead skin cells start accumulating on the surface of the skin, which forms the scales and the lesions. The usual cycle of the skin cells is of 30 days, however in case of psoriasis, the skin cells would complete the whole life cycle in about 3-6 days. Lastly, the increase of toxins in the body could also lead to an imbalanced immune system, which also pushes the dead cells to the surface of the skin. Psoriasis can happen regardless if you are young or old, it is a skin condition which is not biase at all.
