Some people believe that you can minimize infection when you are away from home by covering the toilet seat with toilet paper. There are no scientific studies showing this will prevent you from getting a bladder infection but it is definitely more hygienic to do it this way than it is to sit on the toilet seat. You should never hover over a strange toilet and try to void as the muscles required for you to do so prevent you from completely emptying your bladder.
