By this I mean companies with affiliate programs that seem to support, communicate with, and encourage their affiliates. A great affiliate wants to know that you are actively on their side, and that you didn't just post your product and forget it hoping for a quick buck on someone else's back. A good affiliate understands that the process is a mutually engaged partnership, and they look for a company that understands this as well. Make it clear that you are on their side and present and available, and you will attract better affiliates.

Finally, of course, there is the issue of how much they earn per sale. This comes down to how much your product costs and how high their commission percentage is. In general you should maximize this. True, your affiliates will make a lot more from your product this way than you will from your own affiliate program but you will make a LOT more money ultimately if you treat your affiliates as well as possible than if you ignore them and offer them crumbs. The more money they stand to make form selling your product, the more sales they will make. And if you create the right environment and give them enough money per sale, they will bring you a LOT of sales.
