What Do I Do If I Need To Stop A Shipment Mid Transit?

Usually, once you start a shipment on its way to your client

, you just let the courier company take care of it. The only follow up in most cases is simply to use whatever tracking services your LA courier provides to you. However, there are certain cases that come up which can make you have to change the shipment while it is en route. While you won't usually have to re-direct a shipment, which is even more complicated, you may have occasion to want to stop one from being delivered. Luckily, this is not as hard to do as you might think.

To stop a delivery from being completed, you have to get in touch with the driver of your courier vehicle via their dispatching office. In the days before cell phones when only unreliable radios were used for vehicle communication, this could be very difficult. All the ways that we now have with all of the wireless communication options that can be used with drivers makes this much easier than it ever has been before.

Usually, you'll just have to call the courier company and tell them that you no longer want a delivery to be completed, and they will get in touch with the driver and tell them to hold that shipment on the truck. In other cases, depending on the complexity of the online interface that your courier has available to you, you may only have to login and enter your request online. Then, they will simply call or message the courier and your package will not be delivered.

There is going to be a cost for taking this action however. When you stop a shipment from being delivered, no matter what your reasons may be, you are going to have to pay to have that shipment returned to you. The initial shipping fee that you were charged is only going to have covered one way shipping and the package will have to ride with the courier through the duration of their route and then be brought back to you later.

If you ask your courier beforehand you should be able to find out what the cost would be to cancel an order mid shipment. Courier companies are required to tell customers what any given surcharge or fee is if the customer requests that information. If you've switched couriers recently and know this need can arise, it is best to get the numbers beforehand so that you are prepared.
