A design job which has become more important as computer games have gotten bigger and much more complex is that of the level designer, very often titled the environmental designer. These creative designers have the job to create and build the various levels in a computer game as well design seamless environments that flow in a cohesive manner within the game. Yet another task which is delegated to a junior designer on the team is that of making a user interface for the video game.

The video game designer job description also includes another important role in the design of a video game. The game mechanics designer, also known as the systems designer, is responsible for designing the story line of the game and creating the characters that will populate it and also the game play strategy that the game will be played by. Most of these jobs require a certain level of practical skills and education.
