What Do We Do With Keywords
Keywords have always been a talisman for those involved in SEO
. They are carefully selected, taken care of and compared with other keywords, and like a proud father taking his sons time in 100 meters, performance is measured constantly.
But Google doesnt seem to be too interested in these little words. And yet, it manages to index more than 3,000 million sites (an immeasurable number) and produces more and more refined SERPs, as an ever-increasing number of users constantly need. In fact, its no secret that Googles been skipping this tag for quite some time now when indexing sites -which doesnt mean its a good idea to skip them altogether from our code. Many other search engines and directories still use them, so abundance does not hurt.
The practical problem that arises, especially for those who do SEO old school way is that they are too used to keyword metrics, and we must face it, as it gives us some sense of security having numbers and figures to hold on to. The issue is that if we continue insisting with SEO practice focusing on keywords, were out of line with what Google expects of sites and Internet in general. And Google is so very powerful that its decisions establish a trend. And the trend is that we are in era of Web 2.0 and that it goes towards a semantic reading of texts. As a short bed cover, if we cover our shoulders we uncover our feet and vice versa. If we insist on ritual of keywords, we cant make a promotion and semantic positioning of the page. But we cant ignore them completely. So its necessary to find a transitional solution.
In many cases keywords work as core director of texts for webmasters. This week we are with 3G cell phones, so we work on this phrase. Next week we are with cheap iPhone. It doesnt have to be like that. Its okay to have a guiding idea so as not to divert our attention from a central theme. In this example, if we focus on the iPhone, we wont promote the Nexus. But if keywords tie us up and restrict us, and perhaps prevent us from taking good spot niche opportunities, then they wont be helpful any more.
The secret is to make ethical SEO. If you want to sell iPhones, its logical that texts mention the word. But that your articles have a density of keywords that make it very difficult for a normal person to get to the end of them because they are impossible to digest, consider that they are no longer doing their job. It must be about offering added value to products. For ethical SEO, I mean common sense SEO. The viralization of articles is a well proven SEO technique at this point. I dont think that itll do much good to have a directory of articles in a text that nobody with right mind would want to read. Therefore, dont worry too much about keywords, pay attention to texts, which are what will ultimately bring the traffic you need.
