What Do You Do As A Christian Journalist In A Very Secular World?
Society sees many trends and fashions over time
, and what seems to be the eventual fashion in all civilizations is the eventual denigration of those who believe in God. Secularism can be seen as an effect of a rise in technology coupled with growing government power. Or maybe it's just inevitable when people get tired of feeling accountable to God for their actions. Recently, Christianity has come under attack.
As an overwhelmingly religious country, the United States has begun experiencing growing numbers of an angry minority demanding that God be taken out of affairs that can be deemed in any way public. Misunderstanding the Founders' admonition that the government never endorse a particular religion, these people insist that God must be eliminated from government entirely. Not only that, but a few even complain about the use of religious symbols such as the Ten Commandments or crosses for fallen soldiers and police officers being displayed in public view or on public lands.
What are Christian journalists, female Christian authors, or women Christian speakers to do? Is there still a market for works that carry an overall tone of religion? Do people still want to hear about God's abiding love for us and Jesus Christ's saving grace? The answer is an emphatic YES! Though a few very loud people make it seem as if the majority is falling away from any belief whatsoever, there is still very much a place for those who strive to make Christian service and love a priority in their lives.
Not only that, but we desperately need such voices to remind us that there is a higher power to whom we are accountable and who loves us. Yes, horrible things have been done in the name of religion, but this is a fault of many different creeds or faiths in the world, Christianity included. What is important is that we continually strive for improvement as individuals and as a people, and having constant messages of hope, renewal, and belief set before us by these Christian journalists, female Christian authors, and women Christian speakers.
As for these journalists, authors, and speakers, if they remember to regularly return to that source of faith and hope that inspires their words, and as they see lives transform because of their efforts, they will find the encouragement and support they need to continue in their work. We all need to remember that the Savior of us all, Jesus Christ, is mightier than any secular movements and fashions.
