What Do You Use Your Exercise Bike For?
I look around my tiny house and notice that some bits and pieces have followed me through many house moves over the years.
We are not talking about an old vase, or an ornament or two here, funnily enough we are talking about exercise equipment.
I think I could have claimed the world record for owning the oldest rebounder until my son wrecked it by using it as a launch pad to jump from sofa to armchair. For those who do not know, a rebounder is like a mini-trampoline. I have actually carried that rebounder from home to home over the last 16 years, and that has been a total of five house moves! I have a new one now, but its not the same.
However, the rebounder had other uses in its time with me. Most notably because it had 6 legs that you could hang clothing items from. It was also a handy place to store handbags, and helped keep my necklaces from getting tangled up.
I have an original Reebok Step that dates back even further than the rebounder, and this is now tucked under my front room window. My son has used it over the years to step up on so he can reach the crayons and colouring pencils I kept on the windowsill. It comes in very useful for me too when I want to reach up to draw the curtains at night.
In one house I lived in, we had French doors that opened out into a conservatory. The only problem being there was a huge drop from the door to the conservatory floor, and the Reebok Step came in very useful as a temporary step until we could build some proper steps from breeze blocks. It also helped me reach the top of the walls while re-painting, and this is why the step has lots of tiny paint drops and splashes all over it to this day.
How many of you have owned, or even still own, an exercise bike?
And how many of you actually use it for the sole purpose of cycling to keep fit?
Come on, own up now you know it comes in handy for hanging shirts on! One of my friends even uses hers to hang her freshly ironed clothes from before she puts them all away.
Having said all this, there have been many times over the years when I will actually dust down these versatile pieces of equipment and actually use them for the purpose that they were intended.
Sadly due to lack of space in my current home, and the addition of my son taking up all the spare room with his toys, I had to part-company with my exercise bike, mini-gym, step machine and dumbbells. I am sure that had they been able to stay, these certainly would have been re-used for fitness purposes at various points as the years went by.
If you have the space to spare in your home, I would heartily recommend a couple of pieces of home exercise equipment. But always choose something fun and easy to work with that you know you will be happy to use on a regular basis.
Think about the advantages of having your own equipment freely available in your own home. No travelling to the gym, and no expensive gym memberships. If you only can spare twenty minutes for a workout you already have the equipment to hand where it may take twenty minutes to get to your gym.
It doesnt have to be expensive to set your self up either. A quick browse through the small ads in your local paper will reveal a treasure trove of exercise equipment for sale at knock-down prices. You could even join your local Freecycle group and find these items for free!
