What Does Bmw Stand For

BMW is the curtailed form of the German brand Bayerische Motoren Werke

, an automobile company that is located in Germany. They manufacture cars, SUVs, motorcycles and engines. The company was founded in 1916 and since then has been praised for its top of the line luxury vehicles. Additionally it is the parent company of the Rolls Royce line of vehicles.

There are several newer models presently being produced by BMW they are classified in a number of different series each offering slightly different features.

BMW 1 Series

This line was put on the market in 2004 and is the most compact car ever created by the BMW manufacturers. It includes two models coupe or convertible (E82/E88) and the hatchback (E81/E87).


BMW 3 Series

This line was first established in 1975 and is a compact executive car that is of the inclusive of the current E 90 sports sedan, E91 station wagon, the E92 coupe and E93 convertible. It is thought to be the automobile measuring stick and many of its competitors use this standard to gauge the quality of their own automobiles. Even though it is expensive it has managed to out sell more affordable luxury cars like Ford Mondeo. Of the complete series it makes up the highest number of overall BMW sales.

BMW 5 Series

This is a mid-size executive car that includes the E60 Sedan and E61 station wagon. The F07 was released in 2010 and fills the gap between station wagons and the bigger SUV.

BMW 7 Series

This line produces the larger more advanced sedans. Most new innovations are tested on this model intially . This was the first car within the line to integratethe iDrive system. It was also the first to have a hydrogen internal combustion engine. Essentially the car uses liquid hydrogen avoiding the side effects of harmful emissions. F01 is the most current model in the line.

BMW 6 Series

This line produces the E63/E64 grand touring luxury sport coupe/convertible.

BMW X3 SUV

The X3 E83 SUV or as it is more accurately called the SAV Sports Activity Vehicle, came on the market in 2003. It is an off-road vehicle that has BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system. The X1 is ready to be released in the near future and will be the follow up to the X3.

BMW M3 Coupe E92

This line is targeted at race car enthusiast. It is praised for its state of the art engine and creative design. The latest model was V powered and came on the market in 2007.
