What Does Eczema Look Like And How Do You Relieve It
There are many varieties of skin eczema and they include names such as discoid eczema
, nummular dermatitis and atopic skin disorder. What is common to them aside from itching symptoms is the appearance of blisters, red pimples, patches and some pustules. This can occur on the face for toddler and for adults on the neck, arms, legs and torso. The person suffering from eczema feels an itchy sensation and may unconsciously be scratching their skin, even in their sleep to relieve it. Scratching doesn't help matters but in fact adds to the inflammation.
A lot of people who are suffering skin disorders feel psychologically a damage to their overall appearance. This can result in lowered self-esteem and the fear of ridicule. For infants, eczema can be temporary for some. Others have a chronic condition.
Moisturizing your skin is an important part of treatment and not just a way to feel better. The area is tender and there can be dryness and flaking accompanying the rash. Over the counter or prescription cortisone ointments may be prescribed. Dermatologists also recommend moisturizing in addition to this to treat the dermatitis.
Since eczema can cause dryness of the skin, products that can cause dryness of the skin should be avoided such as those that contain alcohol like perfumes and other fragranced products. These products can react with the skin and can also make the condition worse.
One type of eczema is seborrheic eczema wherein the skin appears scaly with yellow patches. These yellow patches are often located in the areas such as the neck, face, and the head. Usually, these yellow patches are scaly and oily. If the eczema occurs on the head, it can cause hair loss although it may or may not cause itchiness. The exact cause of this type of eczema is not known but it is believed to be caused by allergens that trigger the immune system of the person. Some of the possible triggers would include stress, weather changes, and even genetics.
Another type of eczema would be dishidrotic eczema which is apparent on the feet and legs. It usually appears as itchy blisters. It can cause deep sores that can be very uncomfortable. Nummular eczema is circular in nature and very itchy.
Eczema should be immediately treated and not ignored. Psychologically if your child has it do all you can to raise their self-esteem and let them know that they are still beautiful to you and others. Seek medical attention and if the case is severe, oral steroids may be prescribed for ten to twelve days to help diminish symptoms.
