What Every Sufferer Should Know About Hemorrhoids

There are two sites in your anus where hemorrhoids can occur and develop; it can be either inside you anal canal or outside

. Both of these types of hemorrhoids involve swollen blood vessels in the anal area. Although these are not very serious conditions, they can give you disturbing pain and discomfort.

Do you want to know what causes the blood vessels to swell in the anal canal and lower portion of the rectum?

Actually, there are several reasons why the blood vessels become swollen. Aging, constipation and pregnancy related causes such as a displaced uterus are all causes of the occurrence of hemorrhoids. The engorged blood vessels can be found inside the anal canal or under the skin of the outside portion of the anus.

Sometimes, hemorrhoids are asymptomatic.

Occasionally, hemorrhoids can bulge and cause a lot of pain. When an internal hemorrhoid becomes very swollen, it tends to come out of the rectum and cause pain. It is also very painful when an external hemorrhoid creates a stiff lump or when a clot forms under the skin. It needs prompt medical intervention when you have an internal prolapsed hemorrhoid or an internal thrombosed hemorrhoid.

Hemorrhoids are not alarming as they are not dangerous. Sometimes, they disappear naturally with aging. If hemorrhoids are caused by a difficulty in bowel movement or constipation, they normally shrink back to their normal sizes after the problem is resolved. Most often, these conditions are associated with pregnancy. The swelling of the blood vessels in the rectum is caused by the pressure that the fetus exerts in the rectum. These conditions generally disappear after the pregnant woman delivers her baby.

Nearly half of the world's population will experience some form of hemorrhoids - especially when they reach the golden age of fifty.

In many cases, the hemorrhoid is a harmless or acute condition that does not affect normal daily life. But you should seek to prevent the occurrence of constipation so that a smooth passage of stool during bowel movement is experienced. When you are not constipated, there is no bowel straining or bearing down and the anus is free from pressure. A fiber-rich diet such as fruits and vegetables can help you prevent constipation.

This is also very true if you have a regular exercise habit. Also, you should not sit very long in the toilet or hold the urge to defecate.

Remember that having a blood in your stool is not always a significant sign of having an internal hemorrhoid. This may also indicate other problems or a complication of other illnesses. The best way to know what your bloody stool may signify is to see your doctor and have your problem examined. The doctor has the knowledge and ability to gather the signs and symptoms you have and decide after an examination whether you have an internal hemorrhoid or a different problem.
