Bass is the name of several kinds of food and game fish

. Some of these are salt-water fish. The sea bass is one example of the bass that live in the ocean. A close relative, the striped bass, is one of the most highly prized ocean fish. It can be caught by fishing from a boat, or by surf-casting from the beach. This fish gives you a good battle when you hook it and it is delicious to eat. Striped bass may weigh twenty pounds or more. "Stripers," as they are usually called, can be caught all along the Atlantic coast. The fresh-water bass are members of the sunfish family. There are two main types, the large-mouthed black bass, and the small-mouthed bass. Both are excellent game fish. They are found in fresh-water lakes in many parts of the country. When they are hungry they will strike at worms, frogs, or grasshoppers used for bait. But the expert fisherman feels that it is a better test of skill to get them to strike at artificial flies or plugs. The fresh-water bass, like their sunfish relatives, lay their eggs in depressions in the sand of a lake. The female fish clear out a little hollow and then lay the eggs in it. Then the eggs are fertilized by the male and the bass stand guard and chase off any other fish that try to eat the eggs, or even approach the nest.Chilean sea bass is a fish found in the cold, temperate waters.
