Nearsightedness can be caused by one of the following:

1. The cornea (the external surface of the eyeball) is just too curved.

2. Your eyeball is simply too long.

When a person affected by Myopia looks at distant subjects, the light rays from these remote things are near enough parallel to each other. To focus the image, the rays need to be bent so that they converge upon the retina at the rear of the eye. However, because of the complications mentioned above, the rays tend to be bent an excessive amount and converge in front of the retina.

Even so, whenever someone suffering from Myopia focuses on a close subject, the rays of light coming from those nearby objects enter the eye from an angle, meaning the light must be bent a lot more, and in this case, the rays do focus correctly onto the retina, thus near vision is just not impacted Myopia.

When you wear a pair of glasses or contact lenses to correct nearsightedness, those lenses make sure that the light entering your eye converges onto the retina, and thus bringing images into focus.

A further option to fix Myopia is lasik eye surgery, where the operating doctor can reshape the cornea to ensure that light focuses accurately.
