What Hygiene Practices You Are Overlooking
Whether or not this is true, it does raise a question about what kind of bacteria you are letting grow in the areas you overlook.
Interestingly enough, some of the most used items in our homes are seldom, if ever, cleaned. These items are right in front of our noses and we overlook them when doing our daily or weekly chores because they are so familiar and common-place to us. Here are a few items or areas of your home that you may not have considered cleaning:
The Remote: This small little item is handled by everyone in your home. It gets picked up and set down in the oddest places and winds up getting lost in cracks in between the couch. After being handled and set all over your home, the germs and bacteria can really start to add up. If your kids are sneezing and then grab to change the channel, it is no wonder that the rest of the house catches a cold too. Taking a quick wipe to the remote while you are dusting or cleaning will eliminate most of these germs.
The Vent Covers: That square metal vent pushing air out or in of your home can really start to get icky when dust settles and accumulates there. This is one of those areas in your home that you ignore, until the in-laws are coming over and you suddenly see dust everywhere. You can avoid the disgusting build-up of this dust by swiping your vacuum extension over it as you sweep the floor.
The Ceiling Fan: Let's face it, we don't look at our home from the perspective of the ceiling, so the dust that settles on top of high places just goes un-noticed. When dust settles on top of the armoire, it may not really contribute much to the hygiene of your home. However, dust on top of the ceiling fan blades gets blown off and circulated around your home each time you turn the fan on. The next time you are vacuuming the floor and the vent cover, take a moment to sweep the dust off the top of those blades as well. If you do not want to sweep the fan, simple take a cloth and cleaning solution and wipe the blades off - not standing directly underneath them. Dust will fall off of them and you really don't want do get showered with that stuff.
The Mini Blinds: We have all seen what it looks like when you turn the blinds and all of the sudden there is a clear difference between the portion of blinds you had cleaned and the part that was hidden and collecting dust all that time. There are nifty tools that clean blinds thoroughly and quickly. These tools are pretty inexpensive and worth the money.
Door Handles: When was the last time you wiped down the door handles in your home? You probably clean the handle in the bathroom, but what about the front door, back door, bedroom, etc? Think about how much you and your family touches the door handle... would you be willing to bet they are clean?
When people discuss hygiene they are usually talking about personal health. However, your home is an extension of yourself. A home is where your family lives and plays and grows. Making sure your home hygiene is up to par will keep your family healthier and help make your home a relaxing haven.
