An individual with an anxiety disorder could not function normally or as he or she has been used to because of these physiological reactions. When a person experiences an anxiety attack, moving to another location is not advisable. It is also advisable to have that person accompanied always so somebody else can assess the condition of the individual. A day of rest is advisable after an anxiety attack occurs. There are still distinct characteristics of anxiety disorders, despite the close resemblance between anxiety disorders and other related psychological disorders. Unresolved childhood fears are often attributed to be the origin of the development of phobias, which are irrational fears. There are several varieties of phobias. These phobias are also triggered by different objects, events and even people. An individual with a phobia often knows that his or her fear has no logical or rational basis but still could not fight against it. Because of their irrational and illogical nature, phobias cannot be easily understood by those who are not affected. Other people eventually see the triggering factor as safe, harmful and neutral. Experts have developed various approaches and techniques in treating anxiety disorders. Psychologists or psychiatrists treat anxiety disorders by combining various cognitive and behavioral techniques. These cognitive behavioral therapies usually necessitate more than one session. These sessions require a facilitator, either a psychologist or a psychiatrist. These therapies are grounded on substantial and credible psychological theories on counseling and behavior modification that have been presented by competent and renowned psychologists. These cognitive behavioral therapies intend to treat anxiety attacks by eliminating the root cause. The psychologist or the psychiatrist will explore on the prevailing thoughts of the individual and would attempt to propose healthier and more positive thoughts. With these positive thoughts, the chances of developing an anxiety disorder or encountering an anxiety attack would be lower. Anxiety disorders can also be treated with intake of prescribed drugs. These drugs have been proven to lead to long-term and short-term effectiveness in treating anxiety disorders. Too much intake of drugs can also be harmful if the individual becomes too dependent on the drug. This may also lead to substance abuse or withdrawal syndromes. Thus, taking psychological drugs is not considered as an advisable treatment option. More psychologists and psychiatrists would still favor therapies.
