What Internet Speed is required for good quality VOIP Service

?

In the early days of VoIP, all spoke about how the quality was lower than the PSTN call, often drops and delays. At that time, these stories probably true that the world was still to grips with high Internet speeds and VoIP technology in general. However, as anyone actually use the VoIP these days knows, the quality of VoIP Phones is not only greatly improved, was also replaced by the availability of a normal telephone line. The technology, such as HD voice, for example, has revolutionized the expectations of businesses and VoIP continues to spread.

But what speeds do we need to get excellent VoIP quality at a minimum? The answer depends largely on what we call "good quality". Regular users expect to be of the highest quality, offering the same phone. That's the very least you can expect. VoIP Phone standards, old phone sound quality is pretty bad. Normal telephone lines to encode the voice signal just a bit 8KHz which sacrifices some of the higher and lower frequencies to achieve good throughput. Therefore, it can easily be confused with some letters like "p" and "b" for example.

VoIP, however, has the ability to encode on many levels. Depending on available bandwidth, a higher or lower codec can be used. Improving the quality consumes more bandwidth. Some programs such as Skype to detect the amount of bandwidth available and select the codec accordingly. This allows virtually anyone to use VoIP effectively.

For more bandwidth is necessary, such as call quality, we need to understand what is necessary to drive a 4 kHz voice coding. It turns out that this is only 64 kbps. Except for the most primitive part of the internet, everyone has substantially higher bandwidth than this. Thus, at face value, VoIP calls, which are at least as good as PSTN calls are available for almost everyone.

If you want to make better use of HD voice with VoIP Phone, we encode 16 kHz or more. In which case, we need spare bandwidth of around 128 kHz which again in the age of Mbps speeds is very small. Indeed, the limiting factor is usually the fact that not all the participants in a VoIP call are using an IP phone. If they did, everyone would be able to speak in pure HD voice all the time!
